Edward F. Dickinson

Edward Fenwick Dickinson (born January 21, 1829 in Fremont , Ohio , †  August 25, 1891 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1871 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Dickinson attended public schools in his home country and then St. Xavier College in Cincinnati . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Fremont in this profession. Between 1852 and 1854 he was a prosecutor in Sandusky County . During the civil war he served in the army of the Union , in which he rose to captain. From 1866 to 1869 he was a probate judge in Sandusky County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1868 Dickinson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican Ralph Pomeroy Buckland on March 4, 1869 . Since he was not confirmed in 1870, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1871 . During this time the 15th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Edward Dickinson worked again as a lawyer. He served as Mayor of Fremont in 1871, 1873, and 1875. From 1877 to 1879 and again from 1885 until his death he was again probate judge in Sandusky County. He died on August 25, 1891 in Fremont, where he was also buried. He had three children with his wife, Henrietta Mitchner.
