Michael A. Feighan

Michael Aloysius Feighan (born February 16, 1905 in Lakewood , Ohio , † March 19, 1992 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . January 3, 1943 to January 3, 1971 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 20th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Michael Feighan was born in Lakewood. There he attended public schools. He attended high school at St. Ignatius High School . He then studied for two years at John Carroll University . He received his Bachelor of Arts in 1927 from Princeton University . The Bachelor of Laws followed in 1931 at Harvard University . In the same year he was admitted to the bar and practiced from then on in Cleveland .

His political career began in 1937 when he took a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives . He held this seat until 1940. In the 1942 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a representative of the 20th District of Ohio. He was able to defend his seat in the thirteen subsequent elections. He was succeeded in 1971 by James V. Stanton . Feighan was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1944, 1948, 1952, 1956 and 1968.

Feighan was married to Florence. His nephew, Ed Feighan , was also in the House of Representatives. Feighan lived in the federal capital until his death.
