Henry Luther Dickey (born October 29, 1832 in South Salem , Ross County , Ohio , † May 23, 1910 in Greenfield , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1881 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1836, Henry Dickey moved with his parents to Washington Court House in Fayette County . Eleven years later, in 1847, he came to Greenfield, where he attended the Greenfield Academy . Then he became a civil engineer. In this capacity, he directed the construction of the Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad in Vinton County . In 1855 he gave up this activity. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession, first in Chillicothe and then in Greenfield. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1861 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives ; between 1868 and 1869 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional election of 1876 Dickey was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Lawrence T. Neal on March 4, 1877 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1881 . Since 1879 he represented the twelfth district of his state there as the successor to Henry S. Neal . In 1880 he renounced another candidacy.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Henry Dickey practiced as a lawyer again. Since 1877 he was also admitted to the Supreme Court. He was also President of the Commercial Bank of Greenfield . He died on May 23, 1910 in Greenfield, where he was also buried.
