Charles H. Elston

Charles Henry Elston (* 1. August 1891 in Marietta , Ohio ; † 25. September 1980 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . From 1939 to 1953 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the first  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Charles Henry Elston was born in Marietta. He attended public schools in Marietta and Cincinnati . He studied at the Faculty of Law of the YMCA Law and graduated in 1914 with a Bachelor of Laws from. In the same year he was admitted to the bar. He then opened a law firm in Cincinnati. From 1915 to 1922 he was the assistant district attorney for Hamilton County . From 1916 to 1936 he was a member of the law school of the YMCA. During the First World War he served as a soldier in the US Army .

As a representative of the Republican Party, he was first sent in 1939 for the 1st District of Ohio to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . He represented the interests of his district for 7 legislative terms, which corresponds to 14 years. In 1952 he was no longer eligible for re-election.

After retiring from Congress, he resumed his legal practice in Cincinnati. He was drawn to the Sunshine State , more precisely to Fort Lauderdale. Elston died there in 1980 at the age of 89. He was buried in the Lauderdale Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
