Joseph Miller (born September 9, 1819 in Virginia , †  May 27, 1862 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1857 and 1859 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Miller attended public schools in his home country. He later moved to Chillicothe , Ohio. In 1839 he graduated from Miami University in Oxford (Ohio). After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1841, he began to work in this profession in Chillicothe. Between 1844 and 1848 he was a prosecutor in Ross County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1856 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives .

In the congressional election of 1856 Miller was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Oscar F. Moore on March 4, 1857 . Since he was not confirmed in 1858, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1859 . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Joseph Miller was appointed federal judge for the Nebraska Territory on March 5, 1859 . He died on May 27, 1862 in Cincinnati and was buried in Chillicothe.
