Robert E. Sweeney (born November 4, 1924 in Cleveland , Ohio , † June 30, 2007 in Gates Mills , Ohio) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . From 1965 to 1967 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 24th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Robert E. Sweeney was born in Cleveland to Congressman Martin L. Sweeney . At St. Ignatius High School he graduated from high school . He graduated from Georgetown University and at the College Baldwin-Wallace Jura . He then went to the Army , where he served in World War II . He was admitted to the bar in 1951 and opened a law firm in Cleveland. From 1958 to 1962 he was an associate with the Attorney General of Ohio. In 1962 he was a Democratic candidate for Attorney General of Ohio. But he was beaten by his Republican opponent.

In 1965 he finally became a representative of the 24th District of Ohio in the US House of Representatives. There he represented the interests of his district for an electoral term until 1967. After leaving Congress, he held various offices in the public service.

Sweeney died in 2007 at the age of 82. He was married to Kathryn and had 13 children with her.
