John W. McCormick

John Watts McCormick (born December 20, 1831 in Gallipolis , Ohio , †  June 25, 1917 there ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John McCormick attended public schools in his home country and then Ohio Wesleyan University in the city of Delaware . He then graduated from Ohio University in Athens . In the following years he worked in agriculture, especially in the field of cattle breeding. At times he also worked as a teacher and later as a clergyman in the Methodist Church . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . In 1873 he was a delegate to a constitutional convention of his state.

In the 1882 congressional election , McCormick was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Henry S. Neal on March 4, 1883 . Since he was not confirmed in 1884, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1885 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, John McCormick returned to farming. Politically, he no longer appeared. He died in Gallipolis on June 25, 1917.
