W. Aubrey Thomas (1909)

William Aubrey Thomas (* 7. June 1866 in Llanelli , Wales , † 8. September 1951 in Talladega , Alabama ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . November 8, 1904 to March 3, 1911, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 19th  congressional district of the state of Ohio .

biography

Thomas was born in Wales. In 1868 he moved to the United States with his parents. They settled in Niles , Ohio. In addition to attending the local schools, he also attended some private schools and colleges, including the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute , where he successfully completed his chemistry studies. In the 1880s he worked as a chemist in various companies, including steel companies. During the last decade of the 19th century, he served as president of the Mahoning Steel Company, a steel company.

In 1904 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in a special election as the successor to the resigned Charles WF Dick . He was re-elected three times. In 1910 he had to admit defeat Ellsworth Raymond Bathrick . In 1911 Thomas left the House. In 1918 he moved to Alabama, where he pursued his economic interests again. He died in Talladega in 1951 at the age of 85. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Youngstown .
