B. Frank Murphy

Benjamin Franklin Murphy (* 24. December 1867 in Steubenville , Ohio , † 6. March 1938 in Takoma Park , Maryland ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . March 4, 1919 to March 3, 1933, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 18th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Murphy was born in Steubenville. He attended the local schools there. After attending school, he learned the trade of glazier . He later worked as a shoemaker, banker and real estate agent. During the First World War he volunteered in the YMCA .

As a Republican candidate, Murphy was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1918. From 1921 to 1923 he was chairman of the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform . In the House he represented the 18th District of Ohio for a total of 14 years. In 1933 he left after a failed re-election.

Murphy settled in Washington, DC . He died in Takoma Park, Maryland in 1938. He was buried in the Union Cemetery in his hometown.
