James W. Gazlay

James William Gazlay (born July 23, 1784 in New York City , New York , † June 8, 1874 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Republican Party . From 1823 to 1825 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the first  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

James William Gazlay was born in New York City. As a young boy, he moved with his parents to Dutchess County in New York in 1789 . After attending school, he studied law at Adelphi University in Poughkeepsie . In 1809 he was admitted to the bar. He then practiced in Poughkeepsie. In 1813 he moved to Cincinnati and continued to practice law there.

As a representative of the Democratic Republican Party, he was from 1823 to 1825 representative of the 1st District of Ohio in the US House of Representatives. He was not re-elected in 1824. In 1826 and 1827 he worked for the weekly newspaper Western Tiller . Until his death in 1874 he worked again as a lawyer in Cincinnati. He was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery , Cincinnati.

Gazlay was married to Rebecca and had three children.
