Frank T. Bow
Frank Townsend Bow (born February 20, 1901 in Canton , Ohio , † November 13, 1972 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1972 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Frank Bow attended his home public schools, the University School in Cleveland and the Culver Military Academy in Indiana . After a subsequent law degree at Ohio Northern University in Ada and his admission as a lawyer in 1921, he began to work in Canton in 1923 in this profession. Between 1921 and 1923 he studied at Columbia University in New York City . Between 1929 and 1932, Bow was the Assistant Attorney General of Ohio. During World War II he was news editor for a radio station in Canton and in 1945 he became a war correspondent for a division from Ohio in the Philippines . From 1947 to 1949 he was an advisor to two congressional sub-committees. He was then a legal advisor to US Senator Andrew Schoeppel until 1951 . Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .
In the 1950 congressional election , Bow was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 16th electoral district of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat John McSweeney on January 3, 1951 . After ten re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on November 13, 1972 . His time in Congress included the Cold War , the Korean War and, domestically, the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War . Bow was close friends with President Dwight D. Eisenhower and campaigned for tax reform. He was buried in Canton.
