John Lewis Brenner (1899)

John Lewis Brenner (born February 2, 1832 in Montgomery County , Ohio , †  November 1, 1906 in Dayton , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1901 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Brenner attended the public schools in his home country and the Springfield Academy . He then worked in agriculture until 1862. He then worked as a gardener in a tree nursery until 1872. From 1866 he lived in Dayton. After 1872 Brenner worked as a tobacco producer; later he became a tobacco dealer. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1885 to 1887 he was a member of the Dayton City Police Committee.

In the congressional elections of 1896 , Brenner was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Paul J. Sorg on March 4, 1897 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1901 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell . In 1900 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, John Brenner worked again as a tobacco dealer. He died on November 1, 1906 in Dayton, where he was also buried.
