Ralph D. Cole

Ralph Dayton Cole (born November 30, 1873 in Vanlue , Hancock County , Ohio , †  October 15, 1932 in Warren , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1911 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ralph Cole was the younger brother of Congressman R. Clint Cole (1870–1957). He attended the public schools in his home country. In 1896 he graduated from Findlay College , also in Ohio. He then studied at Ohio Northern University in Ada . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1900, he began to work in this profession in Findlay . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1900 and 1904 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives .

In the congressional election of 1904 , Cole was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded William R. Warnock on March 4, 1905 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911 . In 1910 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1912 and 1913 he was legal advisor to the US Treasury Department's monetary unit . In 1916, 1924 and 1928 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions .

During World War I , Cole served in the US Army between 1917 and 1919 . He was deployed in France and took part in various military companies. He achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. In 1919 he was one of the founders of the American Legion veterans' organization in Paris . He then continued his legal practice. He died in Warren on October 15, 1932, of the effects of injuries sustained in a car accident near Parkman .
