David Hollingsworth (1920)

David Adams Hollingsworth (* 21st November 1844 in Belmont , Belmont County , Ohio , † 3. December 1929 in Cadiz , Ohio) was an American politician of the Republican Party . March 4, 1909 to March 3, 1911 to March 4, 1915 to March 3, 1919, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 16th and 18th  congressional districts of the State of Ohio.

Life

Hollingsworth was born in Belmont. He moved to Flushing with his parents . He attended school there. From 1861 to 1863 he served in the Union Army . He studied law at the University of Mount Union . In 1867 he was admitted to the bar in St. Clairsville . In 1867 he was mayor of Flushing, where he also worked as a lawyer. In 1869 he moved to Cadiz.

In 1873, Hollingsworth was elected Harrison County District Attorney . In 1875 he was re-elected. From 1879 to 1883 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1880 he was admitted to the bar before the Supreme Court of the United States . Hollingsworth was Attorney General of Ohio from April 21, 1883 to January 14, 1884 . He then resettled in Cadiz as a lawyer.

From 1909 to 1911 he sat for the first time in the US House of Representatives. There he represented the 16th District of Ohio. He did not succeed in re-election. He then worked again as a lawyer in Cadiz until 1915. From 1915 to 1919 Hollingsworth was again a member of the House of Representatives, this time for the 18th District. He was no longer nominated for re-election.

Until his death in 1929 he worked again as a lawyer in Cadiz. He died there too. He was buried in the Cadiz Cemetery . In 1875 he married Linda McBean. They had two sons together, but they died in childhood.
