Jacob Adams Kohler (born August 15, 1835 in Reading , Pennsylvania , † March 15, 1916 in Akron , Ohio ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ). He sat in the Ohio House of Representatives and was Attorney General of Ohio from 1886 to 1887 .

Career

Jacob Adams Kohler was born in Berks County about two years before the 1837 Depression began . When he was four months old, his family moved to Ohio and settled in Franklin Township ( Summit County ). Kohler attended public schools and the Lodi Academy. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1859. He then served two terms as a prosecuting attorney in Summit County. His first law firm partner was Sidney Edgerton. Kohler married Frances H. Coburn on May 16, 1860. The couple had two sons: Rally C. (1861–1865) and Frank Eugene (1864–1866).

In 1883 he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. He was then elected Attorney General of Ohio in 1885. He defeated the Democrat James Lawrence with 360,802 to 341,762 votes. In 1895 he was elected judge on the Court of Common Pleas . He died on March 15, 1916 at his home in Akron, Ohio, and was then buried in Glendale Cemetery .
