Mark McElroy

Mark McElroy (born October 16, 1906 in Cleveland , Ohio , † December 14, 1981 ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ). He was a member of the Ohio General Assembly and was Attorney General of Ohio from 1959 to 1963 .

Career

Mark McElroy attended schools in Cleveland and Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, where he won nine letters in football, baseball and basketball. He was the captain and quarterback for the Kenyon Lords Football Team in 1930. Upon graduation, McElroy studied law at the Case Western Reserve University School of Law , where he graduated in 1934. Immediately after graduating from college, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives . He was active in the Democratic Party. He has held the post of Ward Leader, was Precinct Committeeman and sat in the County Executive Committee. Prior to his election as Attorney General of Ohio, McElroy served in the Ohio House of Representatives, Senate and Cleveland City Council. He also unsuccessfully challenged the election of Anthony J. Celebrezze as mayor of Cleveland. In 1958, McElroy was elected Attorney General and served a four-year term.

McElroy married Marie Niznol around 1956.
