Career

Marc Edward Dann was born in Cook County in 1962 . Nothing is known about his youth. He received a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Michigan in 1984 and a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University in 1987 . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Youngstown, Ohio. Then from 1991 to 1999 he ran the law firm Betraz & Dann with another lawyer and from 1999 to 2007 the law firm Dann & Falgiani in Youngstown with another lawyer . In 2000, he ran for a seat in the Ohio Senate , but suffered a defeat to Democratic party colleague Tim Ryan . Then sat on the Liberty Local School District Board of Education from 2001 to 2002 . In the 2002 election , Ryan was elected to the 108th Congress . Then Dann was called to the Ohio Senate to fill the vacancy created by Ryan's departure. He was then elected to the Senate for a full term in 2004 and served there until 2007.

On November 14, 2005, Dann announced his candidacy for the office of Attorney General of Ohio. He won the Democratic primary in 2006 with 71% of the vote over former City of Cleveland Director of Law Subodh Chandra. In the November 2006 election, he defeated the Ohio Auditor of State Betty Montgomery , a former Ohio Attorney General. Then got 2.04 million votes, while Montgomery got 1.83 million votes. He won huge gains in votes in traditionally republican areas. In this context, he also won the Bellwether Counties: Franklin and Stark . Then on January 8, 2007, he took his oath of office as the 47th Attorney General of Ohio.

A sex scandal during his tenure as Attorney General eventually led to his resignation. In April 2008, Dann sent the Communications Director Leo Jennings on paid leave pending an ongoing investigation in his agency. The investigation focused on allegations of sexual harassment of two women, Cindy Standoski and Vanessa Stout, who worked under Director of General Services Anthony Gutierrez. Gutierrez was then sent on compulsory paid leave until the investigation was complete. The female employees alleged that Gutierrez had sexually molested her several times.

As a result of the investigation, Dann conditionally agreed to release emails between him and his former scheduler, Jessica Utovich. Utovich started working for Dann at the age of 28 as his scheduler, but was appointed Director of Travel in late 2007 . After her move, Utovich got a 27% raise. Then then admitted to having had an extra-honest relationship with Utovich. Utovich voluntarily resigned from her post at the time without giving a reason. As a result of the investigation, Jennings and Gutierrez were fired. Investigators found that Gutierrez was guilty of sexual harassment and Jennings of attempted perjury under oath. Investigators also found that Gutierrez had driven under the influence of alcohol and other drugs . The report listed one incident. Gutierrez is said to have had a drink with other employees and then drove a state vehicle. Dann's campaign funding was also reviewed during the investigation. As a result, Dann resigned from his post as Attorney General in May 2008 after 17 months in office.

He then worked as a lawyer at Dann, Doberdruk & Harshman in Cleveland.

On November 20, 2012, the Supreme Court of Ohio sentenced him to pay $ 1,000 and 500 hours of community service for soliciting immoral payments and submitting false financial information while serving as Attorney General of Ohio  . He was also withdrawn from the bar for six months. On June 11, 2013, he was granted approval again.
