Elections in the United States in 2002
The 2002 elections in the United States took place on November 5th. The choice was at the federal level, a mid-term election (Engl. Midterm election ) because it was exactly between two presidential elections. The following were elected:
- all 435 seats in the House of Representatives , see Election to the United States House of Representatives 2002
- 34 of the 100 Senate seats ( Class II ), see Election to the United States Senate 2002
- the governors of some states
- many state-level parliaments
- as well as some local legislatures
Overall, the Republicans emerged victorious from the elections. They were able to regain their majority in the Senate and expand it in the House of Representatives. The 108th Congress began its work on January 4, 2003.
