John K. Richards
John Kelvey Richards (born March 15, 1856 in Ironton , Ohio , † March 1, 1909 in Cincinnati , Ohio) was an American lawyer , politician and United States Solicitor General .
biography
After attending school, he first studied from 1870 to 1875 at Swarthmore College , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (AB). A subsequent study at Harvard University he graduated in 1877 with a further Bachelor of Arts. After his admission to the bar in the state of Ohio in 1879, he initially worked as a lawyer for a short time before he was from 1882 to 1882 representative of the prosecution ( Prosecuting Attorney ) in Lawrence County . After working again as a lawyer, he was solicitor in his hometown Ironton between 1885 and 1889 .
Richards, who was a member of the Republican Party , served as a member of the Ohio Senate for the 8th legislature from 1890 to 1892 . He then served as Attorney General between 1892 and 1896 as Attorney General of the State Government of Ohio. In July 1897, US President William McKinley appointed him Solicitor General. With that, John Richards held the third highest position in the United States Department of Justice until March 1903 .
He was then appointed judge at the 6th United States Court of Appeals , based in Cincinnati. He was a member of this federal appeals court until his death.
