William Marshall Bullitt

William Marshall Bullitt (born March 4, 1873 in Louisville , Kentucky , † October 3, 1957 ) was an American lawyer and United States Solicitor General .

biography

After attending the High School of Lawrenceville , he studied at Princeton University and received his in 1894 a Bachelor of Science (BS). He then completed a postgraduate degree in law at the Law School of the University of Louisville in 1895 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). After admission to the lawyer in the state of Kentucky, he founded Bullitt & Shield and the decades worked as a lawyer. In the meantime, he was from 1907 to 1909 Chairman of the Department of Public Safety ( Board of Public Safety ) of Louisville.

In July 1912, William Bullitt, who was a member of the Republican Party, was appointed US Solicitor General by US President William Howard Taft and as such took third place in the United States Department of Justice until the end of Taft's tenure in March 1913 .

Most recently, he was a partner in the law firm Bullitt, Dawson & Tarrant from 1948 until his death .
