Edwin S. Kneedler (born January 4, 1946 ) is an American lawyer and former United States Solicitor General .

biography

After attending school, he first studied economics at Lehigh University and graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science ( BS Economics ). He subsequently completed a postgraduate studies of law at the School of Law at the University of Virginia and ended this 1974. After a year working as a clerk ( Clerk ) by James R. Browning , a judge of the 9th  Circuit Court of Appeals based in San Francisco , received He was admitted to the Oregon bar in 1975 .

In 1975 he joined the United States Department of Justice , where he initially worked in the Office of Legal Counsel before becoming a member of the Solicitor General's office in 1979. Between 1993 and 2009 he was Deputy Solicitor General ( Deputy Solicitor General ) and as such after the inauguration of US President Barack Obama from January to March 2009 Acting Solicitor General ( Acting Solicitor General ) before Elena Kagan took over the post.
