Noel John Francisco (born August 21, 1969 in Syracuse , New York ) is an American lawyer and was Solicitor General of the United States in the administration of US President Donald Trump from September 2017 to July 2020 , having held this position from January to March 2017 was already managing director. Francisco thus held the fourth highest position within the ministry.

life and career

Francisco grew up in Oswego , New York. He attended Brandeis University for one year from 1987 , but then moved to the University of Chicago , where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in economics with honors in 1991 . From 1993 he attended the Law School of the same university and received the Juris Doctor with distinction in 1996 .

Upon graduation, Francisco worked with J. Michael Luttig , Justice of the United States Court of Appeal , and Antonin Scalia , Justice of the United States Supreme Court . From 1998 he worked for the law firm Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal in Washington, DC From 2001 to 2003 he worked under George W. Bush as legal advisor in the White House , then until 2005 for the Justice Department . He then switched to the private sector and worked for the law firm Jones Day from 2005 to 2017 . He has been back at the Ministry of Justice since 2017. On September 19, 2017, he was sworn in as the 48th United States Solicitor General.

Francisco is married and has two children. He lives with his family in Washington, DC
