Jones Day was founded in 1893 under the name Blandin & Rice in Cleveland , Ohio by attorneys Edward J. Blandin and William Rice. In the first decades after it was founded, the company mainly represented clients from the railway and raw materials industries. The company has been renamed several times over the years, as new partners and managing directors have been added, including after the company founder William Rice was murdered in 1910. The company later merged with other law firms. Until 2003 the company traded under Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue . The company officially bears the shortened current name Jones Day since 2003
