Dominican monastery in Nörenberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dominican monastery Nörenberg was a monastery of the order of the Dominicans in Nörenberg , then in Neumark in Brandenburg , from the 14th to the 16th century.

history

There is almost no historical information about the monastery. The time of establishment and the founder are unknown (1308 or later?) Around 1380, the Nörenberg monastery of the preacher monks was mentioned in the statutes of the diocese of Cammin . It was supposed to pay the bishop a deer and two capercaillie, a small tax compared to other monasteries and churches.

It was not until 1470 that the monastery was mentioned again in the files of the Dominican Order Province of Polonia when a prior was passed. It was named there again in 1508, 1510 and 1519; at last seven monks were transferred to the monastery, an indication of a possible small number of brothers at this point in time: A Dominican convent had at least twelve monks, perhaps the new members were necessary for that To be able to continue operating the monastery.

No further news is known today, at the latest shortly after 1535 the monastery will have been dissolved after the introduction of the Reformation in Neumark.

economy

The monastery was probably very small and without much income, possibly it did not even have its own appointments (according to the evidence from 1380).

location

The monastery must have been in the city, but it is not known where exactly.
