Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (also known as Cedar Fair, LP is) an American operator of theme parks , based in Sandusky in the US state of Ohio .

history

The amusement park " Cedar Point " was opened in 1870. The park has been changed and expanded several times over the years. The operator at the time was the Cedar Point Pleasure Company. In 1974, the Cedar Point Pleasure Company proposed building an amusement park on the site of the former Frontier City theme park. The plans were abandoned in 1975. Three years later, the “Valleyfair!” Theme park, which opened in 1976, was taken over by Cedar Point. The current company name "Cedar Fair" was then derived from "Cedar" from "Cedar Point" and "Fair" from "Valleyfair!"

In June 2006, Cedar Fair succeeded the biggest acquisition in the company's history with the purchase of six Paramount Parks for a total of 1.24 billion US dollars , these included: Kings Dominion, Kings Iceland, Gilroy Gardens, Carowinds, Canada's Wonderland, and California's Great America. In 2014 the company employed over 41,000 seasonal employees and 1,700 permanent employees all year round. In September 2017, the company announced that Richard Zimmerman, who was most recently COO and President of the company, would take over the management on January 1, 2018.

Cedar Fair Entertainment Company's amusement parks were visited by more than 25 million guests in the 2016 season, making Cedar Fair the eighth largest amusement and theme park operator worldwide.
