Seth P. Waxman

Seth Paul Waxman (born November 28, 1951 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is an American lawyer and former United States Solicitor General .

biography

After attending high school in Hartford, he studied at Harvard University and finished this study in 1973. A subsequent postgraduate study in law , he completed in 1977 with the academic degree Juris Doctor (JD). He was then appointed professor of law at Georgetown University , where he worked until 1997.

Waxman is a member of the Democratic Party and was named US Solicitor General by President Bill Clinton in November 1997 . The third-highest position in the United States Department of Justice he held until the end of Clinton's tenure in January 2001.

He then returned to Georgetown University as a professor and at the same time joined the law firm Wilmer Hale in 2004 , a major law firm with more than 1000 lawyers and based in Washington . He was also a member of the advisory board of the National Legal Center for the Public Interest and the Board of Directors of the Partnership for Public Service .

In 2006, Waxman was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
