Charles Preston Wickham (born September 15, 1836 in Norwalk , Ohio , †  March 18, 1925 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Wickham attended the public schools in his home country as well as the Norwalk Academy . Then he completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. After studying law at the Cincinnati Law School and being admitted to the bar in 1858, he began working in this profession in Norwalk. During the Civil War he served from 1861 to 1865 in the army of the Union in which he until Brevet rose -Oberstleutnant. After the war he practiced as a lawyer again. From 1866 to 1870 he worked as a public prosecutor and from 1880 to 1886 he served as an appellate judge in the fourth judicial district of his state. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1886 Wickham was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Charles H. Grosvenor on March 4, 1887 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1891 . From 1889 he was chairman of the Committee on Coinage, Weights, and Measures . In 1890 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Charles Wickham returned to work as a lawyer. He died on March 18, 1925 after being hit by a car in Norwalk, where he was also buried.
