Arthur W. Aleshire

Arthur William Aleshire (born February 15, 1900 in Luray , Page County , Virginia , †  March 11, 1940 in Springfield , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Arthur Aleshire attended public schools in his home country. In 1912 he came to Ohio with his parents, where the family settled on a farm near Springfield. In 1921 and 1922 he worked for a railway express company and then until 1923 on a dairy farm. His legs were paralyzed in an accident that year. From then on he was dependent on a wheelchair. In the following years he ran a gas station and grocery store at Springfield. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1936 congressional election , Aleshire was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican Leroy T. Marshall on January 3, 1937 . Since he was not confirmed in 1938, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1939 . During this time, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government under President Franklin D. Roosevelt .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Arthur Aleshire resumed his previous activities. He died on March 11, 1940 in Springfield, where he was also buried.
