Eben Newton (born October 16, 1795 in Goshen , Litchfield County , Connecticut , † November 6, 1885 in Canfield , Ohio ) was an American politician with the United States Whig Party . March 4, 1851 to March 3, 1853 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 19th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Newton was born in Goshen. In 1814 he moved with his parents to Ohio, where he first worked in agriculture and then studied law . In 1823 he was admitted to the bar. He practiced from then on in Canfield. From 1842 to 1851 Newton was a member of the State Senate . From 1844 to 1851 he also served as a judge in the Ohio State Service.

From 1851 to 1853 he was a member of the US House of Representatives. There he represented the 19th District of Ohio. He did not succeed in re-election. Between 1856 and 1859 he was president of a small railroad company in Ohio. Newton sat again in the State Senate between 1862 and 1864. He then withdrew from politics and from then on worked again as a lawyer and farmer.

In 1885 Newton died at the age of 90 in Canfield. He was buried in Canfield Village Cemetery . In 1826 Newton married Mary Church. They had four children, a son and three daughters.
