Robert J. Tracewell

Robert John Tracewell (born May 7, 1852 in Front Royal , Virginia , †  July 28, 1922 in Evansville , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

As a child, Robert Tracewell came to Corydon , Indiana, with his parents in 1854 , where he later attended public schools. He then graduated from Hanover College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1875, he began to work in Corydon in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Jason B. Brown on March 4, 1895 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat William T. Zenor in 1896 , he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 .

Between 1897 and 1914 Robert Tracewell was Comptroller at the US Treasury Department . He then practiced as a lawyer again. Since 1918 Tracewell was a Superior Court judge in Vanderburgh County . He died in Evansville on July 28, 1922 and was buried in Corydon.
