Jethro Ayers Hatch (born June 18, 1837 in Pitcher , Chenango County , New York , †  August 3, 1912 in Victoria , Texas ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1847, Jethro Hatch came to Sugar Grove , Illinois , where he attended public schools. After a subsequent medical degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago and his approval as a doctor in 1860, he began to work in Kentland (Indiana) in this profession. During the Civil War he served as a doctor in the Union Army . After the war, he became a member and later president of the Indiana Pension Fund Committee. He held this position until 1907, including during his time as a congressman.

Politically, Hatch was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1872 and 1873 . In the congressional elections of 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Thomas Hammond on March 4, 1895 . Since he refused to run again in 1896, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1897 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Jethro Hatch practiced as a doctor in Kentland. He was also on the board of the Logansport Mental Hospital . Until 1907, Hatch also worked as a doctor for various railway companies. In 1907 he moved to Victoria, Texas, where he worked in the real estate business. He died there on August 3, 1912. He had two children with his wife Sarah.
