Charles T. Doxey

Charles Taylor Doxey (born July 13, 1841 in Tippecanoe County , Indiana , †  April 30, 1898 in Anderson , Indiana) was an American politician . Between January and March 1883 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1855, Charles Doxey moved to Minnesota with his mother , where he worked on a farm. He later came to Fairbury , Illinois , where he attended public schools. He then moved to Anderson, Indiana. During the civil war he was at times an officer in the Union army . After the war, Doxey made barrel staves , among other things .

Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . In 1876 he was a member of the Indiana Senate . At that time he also became director of a gas company . After the death of MP Godlove Stein Orth , Doxey was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election due for the ninth seat of Indiana , where he took up his new mandate on January 17, 1883. By March 3 of the same year, he was able to end the current legislative period in Congress . In 1884 he applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Charles Doxey resumed his previous activities. He died on April 30, 1898 in Anderson, where he was also buried.
