Alexander M. Hardy

Alexander Merrill Hardy (born December 16, 1847 in Simcoe , Ontario , Canada , †  August 31, 1927 in Tonopah , Nevada ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alexander Hardy grew up in his Canadian homeland. In 1864 he came to the United States, where he at Eastman College in Poughkeepsie ( New York completed a trade price). Between 1869 and 1873 he worked in New Orleans in the newspaper business. Then he moved to Natchez , Mississippi , where he published a newspaper until 1877. There he was also head of the port administration. In 1884 he came to Washington , Indiana. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1884, he began to work in this profession in Terre Haute .

Politically, Hardy was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded John L. Bretz on March 4, 1895 . Since he was not confirmed in 1896, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Hardy practiced again as a lawyer in Washington, Indiana. In 1904 he moved his law firm and residence to Los Angeles , California . Via Searchlight ( Nevada ) and Salt Lake City ( Utah ) he came to Tonopah in 1914, where he continued to work as a lawyer. He also worked in the mining industry. Alexander Hardy died on August 31, 1927 in Tonopah, where he was also buried.
