Lemuel W. Royse

Lemuel Willard Royse (born January 19, 1847 in Pierceton , Kosciusko County , Indiana , † December 18, 1946 in Warsaw , Indiana) was an American politician .

Royse studied law and practiced after his admission to the bar in 1874 in Warsaw. In 1876 he became a district attorney in the 33rd Judicial District of Indiana. Royse was mayor of Warsaw from 1885 to 1891.

Royse, who was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1892 , was elected to Congress for his party and represented the 13th constituency of the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1895 to March 3, 1899 . In 1898 he was no longer put up as a candidate by his party. Royse began to practice again in Warsaw. From 1904 to 1908 and from 1920 to 1932 he was a judge at the Kosciusko County Circuit Court . In the time between his judging and thereafter until his retirement in 1940 Royse worked in his previous profession. He died in Warsaw in 1946 and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery .
