Harvey D. Scott

Harvey David Scott (born October 18, 1818 in Ashtabula , Ohio , †  July 11, 1891 in Pasadena , California ) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Harvey Scott attended public schools in his home country and then studied at Asbury University , now DePauw University in Greencastle (Indiana). After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Terre Haute . He also held several local offices in his new home.

In the 1850s, Scott joined the short-lived Opposition Party . In the congressional elections of 1854 he was elected as their candidate in the seventh constituency of Indiana in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded the Democrat John G. Davis on March 4, 1855 , whom he defeated in the election would have. Until March 3, 1857, he could only serve one term in Congress . This was determined by the events leading up to the civil war .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Scott withdrew from politics. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1881 and 1884 he was a judge in Vigo County . In 1887, Harvey Scott moved to California, where he died in Pasadena on July 11, 1891.
