Clarence C. Gilhams

Clarence Chauncey Gilhams (born April 11, 1860 in Brighton , LaGrange County , Indiana , †  June 5, 1912 in LaGrange , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1906 and 1909 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Clarence Gilhams attended the public schools in his home country and then the State Normal School in Terre Haute . Subsequently he worked as a teacher and trader. Between 1894 and 1902 he was an auditor in LaGrange County. He also worked in the life insurance business. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

After the resignation of MP Newton Gilbert , Gilhams was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the twelfth seat of Indiana , where he took up his new mandate on November 6, 1906. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1909 . In 1908 Gilhams was defeated by the Democrat Cyrus Cline . After studying law, he was admitted to the bar in 1910. He also continued to work in the insurance industry. Clarence Gilhams died on June 5, 1912 in LaGrange.
