Elisha Embree

Elisha Embree (born September 28, 1801 in Lincoln County , Kentucky , †  February 28, 1863 in Princeton , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1811 Elisha Embree came with his father to what would later become Gibson County in the Indiana Territory , where he received a limited education. After that he worked in agriculture. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1836, he began to work in Princeton in his new profession. Between 1835 and 1845 he served as a judge in the Indiana Fourth Judicial District.

Politically, Embree was a member of the Whig Party . He turned down a possible nomination of his party for the gubernatorial elections in 1849 . Instead, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 1846 congressional elections in the first constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Robert Dale Owen on March 4, 1847 . Since he was not confirmed in 1848, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1849 . This was shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Elisha Embree returned to practice as a lawyer. He also worked in agriculture again. He died in Princeton on February 28, 1863.
