Theodore Edward "Todd" Rokita (* 9. February 1970 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He has represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives since 2011 . He stepped success in the preselection for the US Senate in 2018 and retired from Congress in January of 2019.

Career

Todd Rokita attended Munster High School in Indiana until 1988 and graduated from Wabash College in Crawfordsville in 1992 . After completing a law degree at Indiana University and being admitted to the bar in 1995, he began working in his new profession. Since 1997 he has been an advisor to the Office of the Secretary of State of Indiana.

Between 2002 and 2010 he was the executive officer of the Indiana state government as Secretary of State . In the 2010 election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth congressional constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Steve Buyer on January 3, 2011 . Rokita was re-elected in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

In Congress , Rokita is or was a member of the Budget Committee , the Education and Working Committee, and the Administrative Committee . He is also a member of four sub-committees.

In the 2018 election to the United States Senate , Rokita ran for the seat previously held by Democrat Joe Connelly . He and his congressional colleague Luke Messer engaged in a tough duel within the primary for nomination as a Republican candidate. In the primary election on May 8, 2018, entrepreneur Mike Braun prevailed with 41 percent of the vote , while Rokita was roughly on par with Messer with 30 percent of the vote. During the election campaign, Braun caused a sensation with a commercial in which he carried cardboard cutouts of both candidates with him and claimed that they were indistinguishable. Since Rokita did not run again in the 2018 election to the United States House of Representatives , he resigned from Congress on January 3, 2019. The Democrat Tobi Beck and the Republican Jim Baird applied for his successor . Baird won the race.

In May 2020, Rokita expressed an interest in applying for the post of Attorney General of Indiana .

Todd Rokita is married and has two children with his wife, Kathy. The family lives in Indianapolis .
