Rue J. Alexander

Rue J. Alexander (born October 4, 1889 in Talbot , Benton County , Indiana , †  January 2, 1949 ) was an American politician . In 1948 and 1949 he was Lieutenant Governor of the state of Indiana.

Career

Rue Alexander attended Lafayette Business College and then worked on a farm until 1915. He then worked as a car mechanic. He later traded in cars and tractors. In 1918 he was during the final stages of World War I sergeant in the United States Army . After that he was responsible for the water supply in Boswell for some time . Eventually he worked as a salesman for the Cornbelt Feed Company .

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1943 and 1947 he held the office of Secretary of State of Indiana. In 1948 he was named vice governor of that state after his predecessor, Richard T. James , stepped down to become vice president and treasurer of Butler University . He held this post between April 14, 1948 and January 2, 1949. He was Deputy Governor Ralph Gates and Chairman of the State Senate. He died on January 2, 1949, shortly before the end of his term in office.
