Katherine L. "Kathy" Davis (born June 24, 1956 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2005, she was Lieutenant Governor of the state of Indiana .

Career

Kathy Davis studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) until 1978 . She then worked in her father's research and development company. One of her tasks was researching vibrations in submarines. She then graduated from Harvard Business School . In 1982 she came to Indiana, where she worked for the Cummins Engine Company for several years . At the same time she embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1995 she became Indiana State Budget Director . She then held various other state offices. From 2000 to 2004, she was the controller of the City of Indianapolis .

After the death of Governor Frank O'Bannon , Vice Governor Joe Kernan was constitutionally succeeded. He appointed Kathy Davis as the new lieutenant governor, who held this office between October 20, 2003 and January 10, 2005. She was Deputy Governor and Chair of the State Senate . She was the first woman to ever serve as Lieutenant Governor of Indiana. At the same time she was head of the Ministry of Commerce and Agriculture. She also chaired her state's Anti-Terrorism and Security Council. After the end of her time as lieutenant governor, Davis was CEO of the IT group Global Access Point . In 2007 she founded the Davis Design Group . Since the end of her political career in 2005, she was repeatedly discussed as a candidate for various political offices.
