David Hillis

David Hillis (* 1785 in Washington County , Pennsylvania , †  July 8, 1845 in Madison , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1840 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Indiana.

Career

Nothing is known about the youth and school education of David Hillis. During the British-American War he served in a company of Rangers. He later became a civil engineer and surveyor. In this capacity he measured areas in the northern part of the state of Indiana, in Michigan and Illinois . Then he became an associate judge in Jefferson County . Politically, he joined the Whig Party . Between 1823 and 1830 he was a one-year interruption the House of Representatives from Indiana to; from 1832 to 1837 he was a member of the State Senate .

In 1837 Hillis was elected Lieutenant Governor of Indiana alongside David Wallace . He held this office between December 6, 1837 and December 9, 1840. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time he was again a member of the House of Representatives from Indiana from 1842 to 1845. He died in Madison on July 8, 1845.
