Rebecca S. "Becky" Skillman (born September 26, 1950 in Bedford , Lawrence County , Indiana ) is an American politician . She was Lieutenant Governor of the state of Indiana from 2005 to 2013 .

Career

Becky Skillman graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion . She then embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Since 1977 she has held various offices in the Lawrence County administration. In 1992 she was elected to the Indiana Senate, where she was promoted to the Caucus Chair of the Republican faction.

In 2004, Skillman was elected Lieutenant Governor of Indiana alongside Mitch Daniels . She held this office after being re-elected between January 10, 2005 and January 14, 2013. She was Deputy Governor and Chair of the State Senate. She was simultaneously head of the authority to promote tourism, the Energy Group and the planning authority of their state ( Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority ) and the Ministry of Agriculture. For 2012, she initially sought to run for governorship, but then dropped out of the primaries.

She has a son with her husband Steve.
