Richard T. James

Richard Thomas James (born February 27, 1910 in Portland , Jay County , Indiana , † October 27, 1965 in Indianapolis , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1948 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Indiana.

Career

Richard James graduated from Portland High School . After studying law at Western Reserve University in Cleveland and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Portland. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1934 he was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives. He remained there until 1936. Between 1938 and 1940 he was Deputy Secretary of State of Indiana. From 1941 to 1945 he held the office of State Auditor .

In 1944, James was elected lieutenant governor alongside Ralph Gates . He held this office between January 8, 1945 and January 10, 1948, according to other information until April 1, 1948. James was also a member of several organizations and associations. He died in Indianapolis on October 27, 1965.
