Samuel Hall (politician)
Samuel Levin Hall (born June 1, 1797 in Somerset County , Maryland , † May 11, 1862 in Princeton , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1840 and 1843 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Indiana.
Career
Samuel Hall did not receive a regular school education. He taught himself the necessary knowledge. He had lived in Gibson County in what is now Indiana since 1814 . After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. Between 1832 and 1835 he was a district judge in his home country. At the same time he embarked on a political career. Between 1829 and 1831 and again from 1845 to 1846 he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives . In the 1830s he joined the Whig Party , which was then founded .
In 1840 Hall was elected Lieutenant Governor of Indiana alongside Samuel Bigger . He held this office between December 9, 1840 and December 6, 1843. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In the years 1850 and 1851 Hall took part as a delegate to a constitutional convention of his state; In 1854 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives . He was also a member of the Freemasons . Samuel Hall died on May 11, 1862 in Princeton, where he was also buried.
