Robert L. Rock

Robert L. Rock (born September 8, 1927 in Alexandria , Madison County , Indiana , †  January 9, 2013 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1965 and 1969 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Indiana.

Career

Robert Rock graduated from Anderson High School and then served in the United States Navy medical service at a San Diego naval hospital during the final stages of World War II . He then studied economics at Indiana University . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1955 and 1965 he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives .

In 1964, Rock was elected Lieutenant Governor of Indiana alongside Roger Branigin . This post he held between 11 January 1965 to 13 January 1969. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1968 he ran unsuccessfully for governor. Between 1972 and 1980 he was Mayor of Anderson City . During this time he established the city's Housing Authority Commission and the Anderson Transportation System . He died on January 9, 2013 in Fort Lauderdale.
