John Mutz

John Massie Mutz (born November 5, 1935 in Indianapolis , Indiana ) is an American politician . Between 1981 and 1989 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Indiana.

Career

John Mutz graduated from Northwestern University and then worked in the private sector. Among other things, he ran a restaurant chain. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1967 and 1970 he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives ; from 1971 to 1980 he sat in the State Senate . In 1980 Mutz was elected Lieutenant Governor of Indiana alongside Robert D. Orr . He held this office after a re-election between January 12, 1981 and January 9, 1989. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1988 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of governor.

After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, John Mutz worked in various areas. Between 1989 and 1993 he was President of Lilly Endowment Inc. , one of the ten largest private foundations in the United States. He was then President of the PSI Energy group between 1993 and 1999 . From 2002 to 2010 he served as chair of the Lumina Foundation for Education .
