William S. Haggard
William Selkirk Haggard (born September 17, 1847 in Jeffersonville , Fayette County , Indiana , † July 6, 1911 in Tippecanoe, Marshall County , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1901 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Indiana.
The sources on William Haggard are very poor. He took part in the civil war as a soldier in an artillery unit and achieved the rank of corporal in the Union army . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1896 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Indiana alongside James Mount . He held this office between January 11, 1897 and January 14, 1901. He was Deputy to Governor James Mount and Chairman of the State Senate . He was also the head of the Indiana State Soldier's Home .
