Life

After finishing school, Hans-Jörg Holubitschka went to Düsseldorf on the recommendation of his then art teacher at the grammar school to study with Gerhard Richter from 1980 to 1988 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There he met friends from his school days, such as his painter colleague Thomas Bernstein . His fellow student Bernard Lokai, whom he met in Gerhard Richter's class, became an important artist colleague. Other later artist colleagues, with whom he became friends during his academy times, such as Stefan Demary , Heinz Hausmann , Hendrik Krawen , Stefan Ettlinger and many others, accompanied him on his further artistic creative processes.

After completing his studies, Hans-Jörg Holubitschka devoted himself to landscape painting . His preferred motifs are views of landscapes, etc. a. in southern France, Italy, England with Scotland, Ireland, Spain, landscapes in Germany; u. a. also his homeland Westerwald, but also the Swiss mountains and the Bavarian Alps. In the case of “city landscapes” or city views, he has so far u. a. painted the following cities: Düsseldorf , Rio de Janeiro , London , Paris , Orvieto , Mallorca , Rome , Venice , Urbino and Zurich . Since 2012 he has also dealt with the topic of cultural landscapes . To this he counted the artificially designed landscapes, such as golf landscapes. He had painted the following places in new pictorial landscapes: The Fifteens (Düsseldorf Golf Club), The Seventh (Golf Club Hubbelrath) Düsseldorf, Princeville Hawaii , St Andrews Links Scotland , Oubaai (South Africa) and Les Dunes America . Hans-Jörg Holubitschka did not paint the portrayal of a landscape. For him, the landscape is the medium for giving the viewer access to his pictures via a familiar motif. He uses color and its compositional possibilities as an instrument to express emotional states. The color effect and exaggeration of his pictures refer to the painters of American color field painting such as Mark Rothko , Barnett Newman or Clyfford Still . While these painters moved in completely abstract space, Hans-Jörg Holubitschka undertook to transform figurative elements of the landscape into abstract fields of color.
