life and work

Armin Baumgarten spent his childhood in Lower Saxony and began drawing and painting at an early age . He also learned the technique of etching through his art teacher Wilfried Wöhler . After graduating from high school at Humboldt-Gymnasium in Gifhorn and doing civilian service in Braunschweig , he began studying painting there in 1989 at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts . His teachers were Hinnerk Schrader, Karl Möllers, Arwed D. Gorella and Hermann Albert , whose master class he became in 1996.

In 1993 he found on the subject of the head: "The head as the head itself, as a timeless metaphor for people and as a metaphor for painting." circled. "Freed from having to undertake new art revolutions, so it is said in one of their manifestos, it is now a matter of painting a timeless order."

In 1998 Armin Baumgarten moved to Düsseldorf . From there he made many trips to neighboring France. In addition to studying architecture and sculpture of Romanesque churches, he also found the theme of the landscape: "In this process, the pictures of Georges Braque , who lived and worked in Varengeville-sur-Mer , where Baumgarten had drawn, were formative for Baumgarten ." From 2003 onwards, numerous sculptures were created, initially in plaster, which were then cast in bronze by the Rolf Kayser (art foundry) workshop in Düsseldorf using the lost wax technique . In 2007 Armin Baumgarten designed a cross for the Tersteegen Church in Düsseldorf. Bronze sculptures have been created in public spaces since 2012, for example a larger than life figure in the Munich cityscape (Nymphenburger Straße 22).
