The Humboldt-Gymnasium is a high school in Gifhorn , Lower Saxony.

history

The Humboldt-Gymnasium was founded in 1979 as a school in the district of Gifhorn. Although the Otto Hahn Gymnasium had existed in Gifhorn since the 1950s (spread over two buildings since 1971), the school was divided due to the constantly growing number of students. For this reason, the Humboldt-Gymnasium was founded and the parts of the school previously located in the Lindenstrasse building of the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium were moved to the building of the former Fritz-Reuter-Realschule. In the spring of 1998 the grammar school received the official title of European School .

The first headmaster from 1979 was Anton Pump. Michael Weiß became his successor in 1996. In 1994 the area of the building was increased to around 5000 m² by adding the west wing. In 2011 a new break hall was built.

In May 2003 almost 1,100 students and over 80 teachers attended the grammar school. From 2003 to 2011 the number of teachers increased to 97.

The Humboldt-Gymnasium has been awarded the title of Environmental School in Europe every year since 2007 .

Brigitte Gorke has been the headmaster of the HG since August 2013, succeeding Michael Weiß.
